Paul Eugene "Gene" Gist Jr.'s Obituary
Paul Eugene “Gene” Gist Jr. of Cape Coral, Florida and formerly of Newburgh, Indiana passed away suddenly but peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, October 21, 2017 following some recent health challenges. He was 80 years old.Gene was born on June 3, 1937 in Evansville, Indiana, the proud son of Mary Lou (Alsheimer) and Paul Eugene Gist Sr. He graduated from Reitz Memorial High School in Evansville, Indiana in 1955 and spent the ensuing 32 years as Zenith Corporation where he rose through the ranks to become a corporate scheduler overseeing production. He spent the later part of his career in a similar position with Whirlpool prior to retirement. He had a genuine love for the game of softball and was an ASA commissioner for the State of Indiana. He also coached and managed his own softball squad in Indiana and later in Florida where he coached the team representing Bubbas Roadhouse and Saloon from Cape Coral. He was a member of the Evansville Athletic Club in Indiana and also the Sons of the American Legion, Post 44 in Newburgh, Indiana.Gene leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife of 46 years Billie Gist; his sons Jason Gist of Cape Coral, Florida, Ken Gist of Nashville, Tennessee and Tim Gist of Evansville, Indiana; daughter Cindy Luigs of Evansville, Indiana. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a number of extended family members and a multitude of others who were proud to call Gene a friend. Sadly, he was predeceased by his parents Paul and Mary Lou.Immediate funeral ceremonies are private.
