Paul J. Gunderman's Obituary
Paul J. Gunderman, 90, of Estero, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at his home. He was born on January 23, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio. He served in the 10th Mountain Division during WW11 as a medic and was credited, along with the field surgeon with saving the life of Senator Bob Dole during the Italian Campaign. In later years he was a member of the 10th Mountain Division Association where he served two terms as their National President. Upon returning from the war he was a journeyman carpenter and built custom homes in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1969 he moved to Cape Coral, Florida and opened, “Paul J. Gunderman & Son Company,” where he continued to display his craftsmanship in remodeling and custom homes until his retirement in the late 1980’s. While in business, he served one term as President of the CCCIA. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 67 years, Dolores, and seven children, Tom (Diane) of Cape Coral, Florida, Nancie (Bo) White of Cape Coral, Florida, Sally (Bill) Knight of Cape Coral, Florida, John(Audrey) of Cape Coral, Florida, Paula (Henri) Lafenetre of Cape Coral, Florida and Susan and Mary Ann Gunderman of Ohio; Eleven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; He is also survived by a brother, Robert (Mary) of Columbus, Ohio. He will forever be remembered as a great craftsman, a devoted family provider and a member of the “Greatest Generation.” Funeral services will be held Friday, November 8, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Cape Coral, Florida. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening November 7, 2013 from 7-9 PM in the chapel of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, Florida 33907.
