Peggy Jean Matthews' Obituary
Peggy Matthews, 86, a resident of Fort Myers, FL since 1975, formerly of Tampa, FL passed away under the care of Hope Hospice on Saturday, January 29, 2022. She was born and raised in Baton Rouge, LA to the late Cade and Acklin (nee Chavers) Edwards on April 13, 1935.
Peggy enjoyed her animals; she loved them as if they were her own children and spoiled them as if so as well. She also loved her kids and family and friends. She would say she loved us all the same. She was loved by all she met. She really loved to do her word search books. She always told us this is how she keeps her mind sharp and smart. She was anything and everyone's mom. She had a special gift about her; she would talk to all the animals, even the birds and squirrels and they would just sit and listen to her and was never scared. She was loving and caring and compassionate for everyone. She loved to dance and listen to music. She was very good at whistling. She taught all of her kid’s grandkids and even her great grandkids to whistle and was very proud about it. She was so special in all of the grandkids' lives that all of their first words were nanny. She was a very ambitious worker. She had many jobs that she was proud of, one of which she worked at LARK caring for disabled adults, the airport, and also the children's home where she made a difference in many children's lives She was preceded in death by her husband and eight siblings.
Peggy is survived by her three loving children, Cathy Murphy of Fort Myers, FL, Jimmy Matthews (Linda) of Fort Myers, FL and Jackie Matthews of North Fort Myers, FL; one sister, Johnnie Cook of Denham Springs, LA; two grandchildren, Sabrina Moore and Donald Murphy; two great granddaughters, Skylar Smith and Aaliyah Beck; as well as one adored great great grandson, Dominic Smith.
