Peter Byron Ellithorpe's Obituary
Peter Byron Ellithorpe, age 84, peacefully passed on February 6, 2025, at Cape Coral Hospital.
He was born to Chester and Janet (Byron) Ellithorpe on July 11, 1940, the youngest of three children. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1958 and received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Central Michigan University.
The majority of Peter’s career was spent working with those with special needs within the Bay City School District.
In 1993, Peter married SunYo Chong Metevia in Las Vegas, and they had many good years together.
Upon his retirement, they chose Cape Coral, Florida as their permanent residence in 1995 and settled quickly into the community.
Peter had a love for life and people. Whether it was racing his sailboat in the summer, getting a new cookbook and trying a new cookie recipe, or inviting family and friends to enjoy Tobico Beach in Bay City with him, fun (and tasty food) always followed him.
His generosity and large personality also made an impact on those he loved. Leaving lasting memories of him and his love of family, including his Dachshunds, Barny and Sunny, and “toys” (motorcycles, cars and sail boats), and being a wonderful support system for anyone who needed him. It was always about learning, laughing and heartfelt love when with Peter.
Peter joins his loved ones in heaven, his brother, Timothy, and parents, Chester and Janet. He leaves behind his wife, SunYo, sister, Janet (Sue), and nine nephews and nieces, TJ, Rick, Todd, Wendy, Darlene, Brian, Chet, Charlie and Alice.
A Graveside Service will be held in his honor on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens.
Peter is at peace, and he will be missed.
