Phoebe Smith Snyder's Obituary
Phoebe passed away in Fort Myers, Florida at Cypress Cove where she has resided since 2001. Phoebe was born in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1920. Childhood years were spent in Maplewood,NJ. After graduating from Miss Beard’s School (now Morristown-Beard School) she earned an associate degree from Penn Hall Junior College. Married to Jack Frost Andrews in 1943.They moved to Westfield,NJ in 1947 where they raised three daughters: Gail Andrews Walraven, Gwendolyn Andrews Nacos, and Valerie Andrews Williams. While in Westfield, Phoebe was active in Family and Children’s Society. When eldest daughter Gail’s Girl Scout Troop needed a leader, Phoebe stepped forward. As a new leader she led 18 seventeen year old on a ten week trip through Europe. In 1965 Phoebe married Howard Percival Snyder,M.D., of Scotch Plains. His children are Merritt Snyder (deceased) and Laura Snyder Kranz of Imperia, Italy. While a widow Phoebe continued several of her interests. Always a travel lover she made trips to India, Morocco, and China in her final year of travel. She also continued antiquing and bridge while in Westfield. During her seventeen years at Cypress Cove she expanded their equipment and services for the other visually impaired residents. Her granddaughter, Hallie Williams provided loving care as her personal assistant for her final four years. Phoebe leaves seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Phoebe was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Amnesty Internat’lUSA , New York,NY or VIP (for visually impaired persons) in N.Fort Myers, Fl.
