Phyllis Evalyn Roehm's Obituary
Phyllis Evalyn Garrod Roehm Born in Passaic New Jersey October 20, 1933. Died in Ft. Myers Florida on June 29, 2021. Survived by her Husband Thomas E Roehm Jr., Daughters Leslie Roehm Reese, Susan Roehm Ryan and son Thomas E Roehm III. (LeeAnne), Six GrandChildren, Alexa Reese, Max Klocko, Zachary Ryan, Colleen Ryan, Anna Katherine Roehm and Elizabeth Roehm. One Great Grandson Reiko Henning.
Phyllis was known by her friends as Peg, a nickname started when she attended Denison University in Granville Ohio. Phylis studied art, receiving Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art and Education. Upon graduation she taught Art in the Dayton OH area schools. Phyllis left teaching to work at Rike's Department store in Dayton as Assistant Art Director, responsible for decorating the store including the Christmas window displays. She was the manager of the Graphic Arts Department of a national Printing company while living In TN. She said of all the jobs she held Assistant Art Director for the Department store was her favorite.
She married Thomas Roehm Jr. on February 4, 1956. Phyllis and Tom celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past February.
Raising a family took her out of the workforce and she continued to find ways to use her talents while raising a family. Phyllis made silkscreened Christmas cards and was known for the elaborate halloween costumes she made for her children.
Another love of hers was sailing. She took up the sport when her husband Tom decided to learn to sail back in the early 60’s. She spent many happy weekends up at Indian Lake in Russel’s Point OH, racing and helping with the sailing summer camp which all of her kids attended.
When Phyllis and Tom moved to Tennessee, they continued to sail eventually buying a 30 foot Pearson and sailed on Kentucky lake. It is there they enjoyed time with family and friends creating wonderful memories spending time on the water with her children and grandchildren.
When retirement came Phyllis returned to her art and began painting with acrylics and also water colors most recently with the of Art League of Ft Myers and Cypress Cove art club.
She was a Member of the Alliance for the Arts, the Art League of Fort Myers and Big Arts.
Wife, Mother and loyal friend, Phyllis Roehm has left a mark of her love for family, friends and country. Her hugs, hand pats, and smile will be missed.
