Phyllis Jeanne Stevens' Obituary
Phyllis Jeanne (Harker) Stevens died peacefully, surrounded by her family in Fort Myers, Florida on October 31, 2014 at the age of 84. Phyllis was born on January 27, 1930 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Myrtle Mary (Williams) Harker and Raymond Richard Harker. She graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1948 and began working for Michigan Bell Telephone as an operator. Phyllis married Wallace H. (Wally) Stevens in 1950. Over the next 10 years the couple welcomed 3 children into their home. Her children remember her as a patient, loving and kind mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals.Phyllis worked at Great Lakes Savings and Loan in Richland, MI for many years and then at Fields Fabrics in Portage, MI after retiring. Phyllis was accomplished at sewing and loved to sew for her family, her friends and herself. She was a voracious reader all her life and briefly volunteered at the Richland Community Library.Phyllis is survived by her children, Jayne (Jeff) Crowell of Fort Myers, FL., David (Sarah) Stevens of Chesterfield, MO., and Steven (Dawn) Stevens of Vicksburg, MI and her grandchildren Angela, Jessica, Joshua, Courtney and Corey. She was preceded in death by her husband Wally, her mother Myrtle and her brother Bobby.A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Galesburg, located at 22 Church Street.
