Ray Thomas Dunn's Obituary
Ray Thomas Dunn, 93, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2024 at his home in Fort Myers, Florida. He was born on November 16th, 1930 to Lynch Sanders and Ada Lou (Whitlock) Dunn in Shenandoah, Virginia.
When Ray was young, he lived in Shenandoah and Craddock, Virginia. His family moved to Florida, where he graduated from St. Petersburg High School. Ray was drafted into the U.S. Army and deployed to the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea where he earned the Combat Infantryman Badge. Upon returning home, he attended St. Petersburg Junior College for 2 years.
Ray’s early career started out as an insurance adjuster. In 1966, he moved to Fort Myers, Florida where he researched, investigated, and resolved individual consumer complaints for the State Insurance Commision. He then went on to work as a paralegal with Henderson Franklin Starnes and Holt from which he retired.
Ray was active in the Fort Myers community. He coached Little League baseball, taught Sunday School and was a deacon at First Baptist Church. He was a kind man who lived by the Golden Rule.
Ray will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Marlene Hawkins Dunn; children, Greg (Sharon) Dunn, Melanie Menard, Jeff (Jenny) Dunn; grandchildren, John Dunn, Nicole (Thomas) Troelstrup, Joshua (Sarah) Dunn, Emily (Chase) Hoskins, Melissa Menard and 6 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by two grandsons, Ronnie Menard (2014) and Josiah Dunn (2021); as well as his son-in-law, Ron Menard.
A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 1, 2024 at Citygate Ministries, 1735 Jackson St. Fort Myers, FL 33901.
A Graveside Service will be celebrated 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in the Garden of Meditation where the United States Army will present Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Citygate Ministries or to Hope Hospice in loving memory of Ray Thomas Dunn.
