Raymond Kaufman's Obituary
Raymond Kaufman, 99, of Fort Myers passed away peacefully Saturday, June 27, 2015. Born in Syracuse, NY February 23, 1916, Mr. Kaufman and his family moved to Ft. Myers in August of 1974. Mr. Kaufman attended Syracuse University and was a 1939 graduate of Brooklyn Law School, Brooklyn NY. He practiced law in Waverly, NY for a short period before being inducted into military service February 13, 1941. He attained the grade of Master Sergeant, sergeant major, in ten months at Fort Sill Oklahoma, a record at that time. He went on to serve in England, North Africa, and Italy with the grade of Chief Warrant Officer. Following military service, Mr. Kaufman was employed as an attorney for the U.S. government and upon retirement in 1971 became the national attorney in charge of subrogation for Utica Mutual Insurance Company in New Hartford, NY. Approximately one year after settling in Fort Myers he went to work for the Public Defender’s office in Fort Myers. Mr. Kaufman was a member of Temple Beth El, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also an honorary member of the Florida Public Defenders Association. He was preceded in death by his wives Flora and Henrietta. He leaves his son David, daughter Lenore Lindsay, granddaughters Morgan and Amanda and grandsons Tanner and Trace. In addition, step children James Jones (Helene), Steve Jones (Tricia), Martha Pachiarz (Casey) and their families. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, July 3 at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens, 1589 Colonial Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33907.
