Rene F. Lohser's Obituary
Rene F. Lohser, 86, of Sanibel, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Barrington Terrace in Fort Myers, FL. Formerly of Woodbury, Long Island, NY, Rene became a seasonal resident of Sanibel in 2001 before making it his permanent home for the past 15 years.
Born on October 3, 1939, in St. Gallen, Switzerland, he was the son of the late Walter and Margirth (Fehr) Lohser. After completing his Master’s Degree in Engineering, Rene began his career with a Swiss pharmaceutical company before immigrating to the United States in 1968. He settled in the northeast, where he built a life rooted in hard work, family, and community.
In 1994, Rene founded his own company, BioPro, a venture that reflected his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to innovation. He proudly led the company until his retirement in 2013.
Rene was an avid golfer and found joy both in playing and watching soccer. He introduced his family to the thrill of downhill snow skiing—an activity they continued to cherish together over the years. Deeply engaged in his community, he was a proud member of the Rotary Club of Sanibel-Captiva and the Southwest Florida Swiss American Club.
Rene is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Therese M. Lohser; his loving children, Marc (Kristen) Lohser of Sanibel, FL, and Denise Lohser of Woodbury, NY; two brothers, Urs (Nenita) Lohser of the Philippines and Walter (Christine) Lohser of Switzerland; and his cherished grandchildren, Chloe, Charlotte, and Carter. His presence, wisdom, and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at St. Isabel Catholic Church, 3559 Sanibel Captiva Road, Sanibel, FL 33957. Burial will follow at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens.
