Richard P Banis' Obituary
Richard P. Banis, 82, of Alva, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 18, 1943, in Quincy, Massachusetts, Richard was the son of the late Anthony and Helen Banis. He was a proud graduate of Archbishop Williams High School in Quincy and went on to earn his degree from Northeastern University in Boston.
An accountant by profession and an entrepreneur at heart, Richard took great pride in owning his own business and contributing to the communities he called home. In 1996, he and his family moved from West Milford, New Jersey to Sebring, Florida, eventually settling in Alva, where he truly embraced the Florida lifestyle.
Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He and his beloved wife, Trisha of Garden City, NY, shared 55 wonderful years of marriage, raising four children they adored: Lacey Vorrasi-Banis (Kelly) of Culver City, CA; Patrick Banis (Lesley) of Gainesville, FL; Skye Reed (CJ) of Fort Myers, FL; and Lt. Col. Quincy Banis (Yasmin) of Columbia, SC. Nothing brought him greater joy than being "Granda" to his cherished grandchildren: Mariah Banis, Rory Vorrasi-Banis, Mia Banis, and Ethan Reed. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenneth Banis.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Richard was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New York Giants. He never met a stranger and was a gifted storyteller, always ready to share a story, a lesson, or a memory with anyone willing to listen.
Above all, Richard’s life was grounded in family, faith, and friendship. His legacy of storytelling, generosity, and devotion will live on through all who were blessed to know him.
Richard’s family has entrusted Fort Myers Memorial Gardens with the care of his final arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Knights of Columbus, 1 Columbus Plaza, New Haven, CT 06510.
