Richard James Coyne Sr.'s Obituary
Major Richard James Coyne, Sr, flew into the arms of Jesus on May 12, 2023, following a courageous battle with Dementia.
Richard was born on June 22, 1937. Born in Boston to Francis Jerome “Flicker” and “Annie” Coyne, he is predeceased by his mother, father, and his brothers and sisters who he always remained very close to.
Richard joined the United States Army where he served over 22 years for his country. He completed two tours in Vietnam, earned his degrees, attended OCS, and received many accolades, awards, and medals during his service. He was a very proud of his service and he extended that following his retirement when he worked with the Veterans ensuring they received their benefits while working for the VA. Following his retirement from the US Army, Richard worked in procurement for Harris Corporation followed by Amtrak. The special Olympics was very near and dear to him as well and for many years he coached and traveled with the Special Teams to Washington, DC to be along side his athletes and watch them compete. A man with a heart of gold and a sense of humor like no other means that so many have stories and memories that will continue to put a smile on so many faces.
Richard is survived by his wife Patricia Coyne, his children Richard James Coyne Jr, (Perri Coyne, Richard James Coyne III, and Sean Coyne), Jerry Coyne, (Kathleen Coyne, Sarah Richards, and Matthew Coyne), James Michael Coyne, (Laura Coyne), and his only daughter (he loved her best!) Kelly Anne (Darin Zabor, Joshua Beeles, and Kyleigh Beeles), his step children Gene Powell (Tonya, Ashley, Gene Jr.) and Daryl Powell (Jeannie), known as their Pop-pop; he is also survived by several great grandchildren. He will be so greatly missed, may his stories and tales live on.
Major Coyne will be put to his final rest with full Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery beside his fellow soldiers. Information will be released and forwarded following coordination with Washington, DC.
