Richard "Dick" Alonzo Gregg's Obituary
Richard “Dick” Alonzo Gregg, age 92, of Shell Point Retirement Community in Fort Myers, Florida passed away peacefully on April 2, 2024, following a stroke suffered on March 27, 2024, and a brief stay at Joanne’s House at Hope Hospice.
Dick was the twelfth child born to his parents, Alonzo Gregg and Cathrine Woodworth, on April 24, 1931 in Park County, Indiana. As a child, Dick enjoyed playing baseball, ping pong and going fishing. Shortly after graduating high school, Dick enlisted in the Air Force where he served as a gunner on a B-26 during the Korean War until he was honorably discharged in 1955. Dick married Carol Marie Garloch in 1956 and had three lovely children. Dick and Carol were married for thirty-eight years until Carol passed away in 1994. Dick worked for 37 years in the automotive industry, including holding positions in sales and management.
Dick married his second wife, Maralu Berry in 1995. In 1998, Dick and Maralu retired and became snowbirds, splitting their time between their homes on Crooked Lake in Indiana and in Bonita Springs, Florida. In 2004, they moved permanently to Bonita Springs where Dick was active at Anchor Church, serving as a Deacon there. In 2011, Dick and Maralu moved to Shell Point Retirement Community, where they became members of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.
In retirement, Dick took up the hobby of repairing clocks. He repaired more than 125 clocks while living in the Shell Point community, becoming fondly known as the “clock man”. Dick enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends. Dick was truly a man of faith which was demonstrated through his personal and business relationships.
Dick is survived by his wife, Maralu Gregg; children: Jeffrey Gregg, Tammy Jo Gregg, and Theresa Michelle Gregg; stepchildren: Steve Berry, Lisa Gregg (John) and Sheryl Berry (David Miller); grandchildren: Amy Neff (Steve) and Beth Gunderson (Jon); step grandchildren: Stevie Pactor (Jacob), Daniel Miller, Sarah Berry, and Johnathan Miller; and eleven great grandchildren. Dick was preceded in death by his wife Carol Gregg, his granddaughter Amber Ochoa, his great granddaughter Violet Ochoa and his eleven siblings.
No public service will be held, Dick will be interned in Indianapolis. Donations in his memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Samaritan’s Purse, or the charity of your choice.
