Richard H. Glazebrook's Obituary
Richard H. Glazebrook left us on September 8, 2022. He was able to be in his home until May. Dick had a huge heart for the less fortunate, and most of all for his own children. He was a strong protector and a wonderful father and husband.
Dick was born in East Orange, NJ. His father was a traveling salesman. They soon settled Rock Island, IL. He met Marian while managing a Standard Oil station in Silvis, IL. He came to her home to fix her car tire. Marian could not afford to pay for the new tire. In the following days she took her weekly payment of 50 cents to him. It was their beginning of 54 years of marriage. All because of a flat tire! He found the love of his life and had his prayer answered to find a true soulmate.
His father had PTSD from his military service. He took his life when Dick was 3-years old. He learned to work hard at a young age to help support his mother and brothers. With only a 9th grade education he became a successful entrepreneur. As a young boy he fell and hurt himself. He was going home and then realized there was no one there to help him. (His mother worked and his father was gone). He often referred to this time in his life when he became aware of a Heavenly Father that saw him.
Dick was an army airborne combat veteran of the Korean War and had many medals. He often told of what it was like to jump out of an airplane and land in enemy territory. He trained as a medic in the field and had many hard experiences.
In 1970, he made his choice to yield his life to God in a gospel meeting in Davenport Iowa. He stood to his feet to make it known and then our Mom stood, followed by Vicki, then Dan, then Kathy. Uncomplicated love. And still is.
Living children left to cherish his memory are: Lynda Mackin, Vicki (Norman) Bailey, Daniel Glazebrook, Kathy Glazebrook. Grandchildren Kelly (Stan) Turner, great grandchildren Jack & Jake Turner. Preceding him in death are his wife, Marian Glazebrook, parents Marion & Naomi Glazebrook, brothers Charles & Robert Glazebrook, and grandson Thomas Shrum.
