Richard Morris Grier's Obituary
Richard Morris Grier, 77, a resident of Fort Myers, FL passed away surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at his residence. He was born January 5, 1947 in Binghamton, New York to the late, Arthur and Elizabeth (nee Smith) Grier.
For a period of close to 30 years, Richard was a respected service member of the Lee County School Board. For the majority of his time being spent at Villas Elementary School, and Riverdale High School. Though his role as a Janitor wasn’t necessarily a big one, but his enthusiasm and dedication to be sure students, parents and faculty felt safe and healthy were his top priorities.
Richard loved vintage cars and music. Had a collection of Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash albums. His love for cars was embedded to his sons and grandson to one day build his dream car, a 1969 Dodge Dart.
Richard always had the instinct to help, when it was necessary. Offering a place to stay, food to eat or a ride down the road. He cared for the people closest to him and will be remembered as such.
Richard is survived by his four loving children, Shawn Grier, Richard D. Grier, Shanna Grier and her fiancé, Kenneth Hartman and Thomas Grier; four adored grandchildren, William, Jessica and Chiann and Riley; one sister, Evelyn Stark; one brother, James Grier; as well as many extended family members and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held privately.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL.
