I had Dr. Richard Juralewicz when I was a student at the New England Institute of Law Enforcement Management in 2001. It is now 2026 and I have retired but I still remember him talking about "Juralewicz City" and, "Going where the big ships sail." His city was a metaphor for the vision of what a bright future would look like and he encouraged us to think bigger. Thinking bigger is seldom done in policing but his words stuck with me throughout my career.

I came across this page because I am teaching a community policing class and wanted to ask students about their vision, or their "Juralewicz City." I hope that the good professor is still remembered and is still influencing people to go where the big ships sail.

Dick was a highly inspirational and model instructor in my Ph.D. program at the University of Minnesota. He also generously treated my wife and me to multiple restaurant dinners during the time I was a poor graduate student.
