Richard M. Spina,'s Obituary
Richard M. Spina Sr.,80, born to Silvario (Frank) and Anna Spina passed away Sunday of congestive heart failure. A resident of Lee County for the past 38 years, where he, among other things, was the General Manager of Sanibel Arms West Condo. Assoc. from 1982- 2002.Richard was born in Bayonne, N.J. and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. An excellent athlete, he entered NYU, as a PE major, with a History minor, playing Baseball, Football, and Basketball. Due to the untimely death of his father, he dropped out of college and joined The United States Marine Corps. While stationed in San Diego, he obtained a lifelong dream, a tryout with the old Brooklyn Dodgers, now in LA. Upon returning to NYC after The Marine Corps., Richard married the love of his life, Lucille Grace Cochrane, whom he had been engaged to, May 14, 1960.They had, and are survived by their four children, Richard Jr., David, Vincent, and Julia, also seven grandchildren, Richard, Charles (RC), Ashley, Kayla, Lauren, John Jr., Ryan, and Jacob, and a great-grandson Christian. After the death of his wife Lucille, on May 17, 2005, of cancer, Richard remarried in 2006, and is survived by his second wife, Ruth Keeller, of Ft. Myers.Memorial visitation will be 4pm-6pm Thursday, May 25, 2017 in the chapel of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home 1589 Colonial Blvd. Fort Myers, FL 33907. A memorial service and celebration of life will follow at 6pm. Military honors will also be presented in the funeral home by the United States Marine Corps.
