Richard Stevenson's Obituary
Richard Marlow Stevenson, 84, of Fort Myers, Florida passed away on April 5th, 2024 at 3:15pm in his room at The Preserve with his wife, Nancy C. Stevenson by his side.
Richard was born September 21, 1939 at his family farm in Hancock County, Illinois to Frank and Cecilia (Schmitz) Stevenson. He was the 6th of 7 children and was raised on the family farm in Nauvoo, Illinois. Richard graduated from Colusa High School in 1956.
Richard attended college at Southern Illinois University where he met his wife Nancy. They married in Carbondale, IL on May 30, 1964. He went on to complete his Master's Degree in Education at the University of Illinois.
Richard and Nancy raised their two children Mark and Cindi in Batavia, Illinois, where Richard taught drafting at Batavia High School until 1980.
When Mark and Cindi were attending college at Southern Illinois University, Richard and Nancy decided to pursue their dream of living in Florida where they had spent most of their spring breaks with the kids. They moved to Fort Myers in 1989 and both Mark and Cindi eventually moved to Fort Myers as well.
Richard worked at the Lee County Vocational Technical School as a Coordinator for the Work Study Program until he retired in 2007.
Rich and Nancy would have been celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on May 30th, 2024.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; and 5 of his 6 siblings- Betty Ward, and Robert, Donald, Albert, and James Stevenson.
Richard is survived by his wife Nancy C. (McClain) Stevenson; their 2 children and their spouses, Mark R. Stevenson and LeighAnn (Goodman) Stevenson and Cynthia L. (Stevenson) McAlister and Douglas E. McAlister; two grandsons Nicholas A. Reihardt and wife Danielle (Gillis) Reinhardt and Neil M. Reinhardt; two great - grandchildren Rowan and Juniper Reinhardt, all of whom are from Fort Myers/Cape Coral Florida. He is also survived by one sister, Sarah and her husband Richard Foster.
Richard's ashes will be buried at the family Thornber Cemetery in Powellton, Illinois.
