Richard L. Travas' Obituary
We celebrate the life of our father, Richard L. Travas, and find peace in knowing he is now flying with the angels. “Dick,” as he was known by friends, was born in Trenton, NJ on June 27, 1934 to John and Hulda Travas. Upon high school graduation, Dick joined the U.S. Air Force and started his career flying various fighter aircraft. After serving in the Korean War, Dick returned to the states and continued his career flying for United Airlines. He also joined the New Jersey Air National Guard, completing missions during the Vietnam War and other parts of the world.
In 1962, Dick married Sandra (Ammann) and together they raised their family. They spent 30 years on the Jersey Shore, and after retiring, they moved to the Sanibel-Ft. Myers, Florida area. He was always dedicated to being of service to his country, his community wherever he was, his wife, his children, and his many friends. Dick volunteered with Lee County Habitat for Humanity and the Lions Club of Sanibel along with additional services to his community. Up until a few weeks ago, Dick continued his “handyman” expertise working in the wheelchair shop for the Shell Point Larsen Medical Center.
He is predeceased by his parents, his brother Col. John E. Travas (U.S. Army) and his beloved granddaughter, Margaret K. Settlemire.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra K. Travas; his daughter, Amy K. Settlemire and her husband Ted; his son, John B. Travas; his daughter, Allison M. Beard and her husband Doug; along with his grandson, Connor S. Settlemire and his wife Michelle; and great-granddaughter, Victoria K. Settlemire.

Dick will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his generous heart, and of course, his epic stories. Fly high Dad, and Godspeed on your next Adventure!
