Richard F. Truax's Obituary
Richard F. “Dick’ Truax, 80, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, February 12th, 2019. He was born to the late James Farmer and Gertrude Josephine Truax Farmer on October 13th, 1938 in Lynn, Massachusetts. He was a graduate of St Mary’s High School and he was later inducted into the St Mary’s Varsity Club for sports excellence. Richard was also a United States Marine. Richard grew up in Lynn, MA and became a City of Lynn Firefighter, advancing to Captain with the Lynn Fire Department. He assisted his wife, Barbara, with Travel Agents International/All Ports Cruise Co. in Lynn MA for 16 years. Owned and operated for many years, the Baker Manor Rest home also in Lynn. Mr. Truax made his FL move to Lehigh Acres in 2003 for 9 years and later moved to Fort Myers. Now retired, Richard enjoyed being a member of the Tice and Shores Moose Lodge and The American Legion. Also a member of AOH Div 10, Lynn MA, and past union president of Firefighters Local 739. For numerous years “Coach Truax” also shared his passion and knowledge of sports, with countless Lynn youth programs, including East Lynn Little League, East Lynn Pop Warner, Post 6 Legion baseball, St. Mary’s High School football and baseball, where he eventually took on the post of Athletic Director.Mr. Richard Truax leaves behind his beautiful, caring wife, Barbara, of 35 years. He will be missed dearly by all of his family including children, Brian Truax(Lynn MA), Susan Reddy and husband Michael(Lynn MA), Kerry Desmond and her husband Michael(Nahant MA), and Brendan Truax(Lynn MA). Richard also leaves grandchildren Christopher Truax, Shannon Reddy and Jacqueline & Michael Desmond. Richard is preceded in death by his precious grandson Patrick Reddy and brother Edwin Farmer. Richard will be sadly missed by his sister Gertrude Baranski, brother & sister-in-law, Ed & Terri Redwinski, nephews Jason & Ed Redwinski, and many other loved nieces and nephews. Mr. Truax also leaves behind his loving furry friends, Starsky, Tayla and Charlie Brown.A visitation has been scheduled for Wednesday, February 20th from 6PM to 8PM at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd. Fort Myers, FL 33907. In addition, a memorial service followed by military honors is scheduled for 10AM on Friday, February 22nd at New Life Assembly of God, 5146 Leonard Blvd S., Lehigh Acres, FL 33973. A gathering for Lynn friends will take place at a date later this year.
