i will always remember and thank grandpa for his wisdom and knowlege for all of my times of need. he always had a way of teaching me that has always stuck with me either with cars, guns or just an ear to bend when i needed it. he may of seemed rough at times but i always knew in my heart he had a reason and it was to make me remember it. i hated the fact the miles between us was so great and that i was not able to keep in touch as much as i liked but, i was always thinking of him and grandma.

I wish I had the words. Crotchety? Set in his ways? Maybe. You said what you meant and felt, for good or bad. To me you were a man of principles. Webster defines principle as "(1): a rule or code of conduct (2): habitual devotion to right principles"a man of…". What better legacy is there than to live your life as a principled man and to pass that on to your fellow man. You may not have known it but to me it was an admirable quality that I wish I had the courage to imitate. I fall short but time and your role model will see me there. I do wish you could have met my family, my wife (Mary); with a name like that she must be a pretty good girl, and son (Noah). The playful side of you would have just eaten him up. You may not have been blood relations; however, you would always say to people thatÃ?Â¢Ã¢â??Â¬Ã¢â??Â¢s MY grandson. You would say that with so much pride and love. You were right. I will forever be YOUR grandson.

Dear Dick: I was very saddened to hear about your passing. I am sorry that I was not able to come down to Fort Myers and see you. However, I am glad that I was able to tell you over the phone how much you meant to me and my family. You and Mimi were like surrogate grandparents to my siblings and I. You have been a huge influence in my life ever since I was born. In fact, you were at my house when my parents brought me home from the hospital. When I think of you, I remember all the lessons that you taught me. I recall you telling me to keep my mind in the right spot before every basketball game. You also taught me the importance of taking care of yourself, be respectful, and always look presentable I remember all of those Saturdays when we used to wash your car and make sure that it looked brand new. You also taught me the importance of being a good person and of family. In addition, Dick, you always reminded me to have fun and be happy. I laugh every time that I think back and remember your stories or how you always Ã?Â¢Ã¢â??Â¬Ã?â??teasedÃ?Â¢Ã¢â??Â¬Ã?ÂÃ?Â¢Ã¢â??Â¬Ã¢â?¬Âin a loving and playful way– my mom and made us all laugh so hard that we practically cried. Your love for life and wonderful sense of humor will be missed. I will never forget all those dinners and milkshakes that you made us ?? While you are gone, you will never be forgotten. Pap, I can't believe that our time together here has come to an end! People often talk about the earliest memory they have. I am sure it is no shock to you most of mine involve you! You and Nanny Mary were such a huge part of my childhood. I have such fond happy memories. There was no doubt we were crazy about one another. Even as a grown woman it always made me smiled when you answered the phone "hey kiddo".Even with all the pain you have been in you were such a trooper. You always made sure Nan was cared for and everyone else was ok. I would call and ask how you were doing and you would say " Don't worry about me kid. You just take care of your husband and boys." There is no words to explain the love you have shown to all of us. You were an amazing father to my dad, father-n-law to my mom,grandfather, great grandfather, and husband to Nanny Mary. You could see the love in your eyes. I know you were ready to go and it is selfish to be upset about it. You loved each of us and even made new friends (Walter) until the very end. I will never forget your words as you told me to take care of my family. Or you telling Tommy to take care of your "baby girl". I had to go out of town and asked you to promise me you would be there when I got back. Thank you for keeping up your end of the deal. I promise to keep up my end and keep an eye on Nan and the rest of the family for you! I will never eat dumplings without feeling your presence! I know you are watching over us from up above! I love you, and will miss you more then words can say! Until we see each other again I promise to watch over everyone here! Enjoy being with our family and friends who have already past. There isn't a day that goes by that you won't be missed. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. Thank you for being such a amazing grandfather, father, and well just you. I will miss pinkie shakes and good laughs out on the porch. You may be gone but you will never be forgotten. I was very saddened to hear about Dick's death. I would like to offer my condolensces for both myself and my family. I am glad that I got to visit him in the days before his death. I feel fortunate that I was able to tell him again how much he meant to me and my children. I will always appreciate the good care that he and Mimi gave my children when they were babysitting for us. However, they both became much more than baby sitters. They were like surrogate grandparents to my children and we all grew to love them very much. Dick will surely be missed but I am grateful that I had the opportunity to know him. He was a wonderful man.
