Robert William Gruber's Obituary
Robert (Bob) W. Gruber “Super Salesman”, 91, of Cape Coral, FL, died January 26, 2016 in Fort Myers.Inurnment will be in Erie, Pennsylvania on April 16, 2016.Robert was born May 9, 1924 in Buffalo, NY the son of Nathan and Marie (Brunhuber) Gruber. He served in the United States Marine Corps as a gunner on the USS Mobile in the Pacific, during WWII. He returned to Buffalo and went to work as a milkman for ten years. He then decided to try to sell cars and was offered a position at D&E Lincoln Mercury in Buffalo, NY. After meeting his future wife he moved to Erie, Pennsylvania where he became the sales manager at Porreco Motors. He then transferred to Scanlon Lincoln Mercury in 1989 and finished his career at Galloway Ford-Lincoln in Fort Myers. He has sold cars for over 50 years and has been recorded to have sold over 15,000 cars during his career. He qualified for Salesman of the Nation for 19 consecutive years with Lincoln Mercury and was a consistent Inner Circle Winner.Surviving are his wife, Susan (Sumner) Gruber, formerly of Erie, Pa; children, James ( Lynn) Gruber of Sweetwater, TN, Gary(Terry) Gruber of Oxford, GA, Robert (Debbie) Gruber of S. Dayton, NY, Lloyd Gruber of Big fork, MT, Kristi (Mark) Sonntag of Fort Myers, FL; siblings Marilyn Zarcone of Blacklick, OH, Dennis Helper of FL and 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Helper, Girard Helper; two sisters, Nadine Helper, Shirley Helper and one son, Dale Gruber.Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on April 2, 2016 at 11AM to honor Bob at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Cape Coral, where he was a member.Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
