Robert Haley Guthrie's Obituary
Robert Haley Guthrie, 92, of Fort Myers passed away peacefully on April 25, 2024. Robert was born August 22, 1931, to James and Mary Leota Guthrie in Quincy, IL.
Robert grew up in Camp Point, Illinois and earned his Bachelor of Education degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. Before beginning his career in education he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as an ordinance parts specialist in Panama. After his return to civilian life, Bob began his life long career in education, first as an elementary teacher and then as an elementary principal in the suburbs of Chicago, IL. Upon his retirement he and his wife Carol spent winters in Florida and Robert has called Cypress Cove in Fort Myers, Florida his home since 2018. Throughout his life he enjoyed traveling to visit National Parks and historical places, baseball games, reading, and visits with friends and relatives, especially his grandchildren and great grandchild.
Robert is preceded in Passing by his parents, wife Carol, and siblings James Guthrie and Phyllis (Guthrie) Zimmerman.
Robert leaves behind his beloved survivors, daughters Rebeccah Tortorello (Paul), Haley DiStefano (Peter) and Stephanie Kiley (Dennis). He is also survived by his brother Richard and 6 grandchildren, Sarah (Steve), Scott, Sam (Kira), Joseph, Michael, Maggie, great grand daughter, Charlotte and a niece, Janice and nephew, Todd.
Upon Robert's request his body is being donated to the Anatomical Donation Program at the University of Miami to support the education of health professionals and further scientific research, there are no services being held.
