Robert Stewart Hascall's Obituary
Robert Stewart Hascall, 79, a resident of Ft. Myers since 2014, formerly of Atlanta, GA passed away Friday, September 28, 2018 in Ft. Myers, FL. He was born September 14, 1939 in Seattle, WA to Robert Edward and Irene Odell Hascall, now deceased.Bob was a graduate of the University of Washington in Electrical Engineering, a United States Navy Veteran and a member of Cypress Lake United Methodist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Brenda Gail Hascall of Ft. Myers, FL; four children, Robert Russell Hascall (Jan) of Olympia, WA, Roger Ryan Hascall (Helen) of Marysville, WA, Lisa Michelle Durst (Rick) of Lynnwood, WA and Heatherlee Hope Williamson (Scott) of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Suellen Noland of Des Moines, WA; one niece, Christie Haynes of San Antonio, TX; 10 grandchildren, Heidi, Alison, Eric, Owen, Claude, Ryan, Lily, Logan, Piper and Chase; two great grandchildren, Veronica and Emerson; as well as many extended family members and friends.Bob was so proud of his family, especially his children. He sorrowfully recognized that he was not always there for them in the early years, when he went back to college while working multiple jobs for the family. His later years were full of memories; holiday gatherings, birthday and graduation parties, backyard barbecues, cabin and lake time with, at times, the blessing of a new child of God birthed in the Hascall family.Bob was a man of God and throughout the years, his love for God’s earth and design led to his avid love of gardening, long walks with Burnie or Andy. In recent years, he loved spending time at his favorite destinations of his mountain cabin in N Georgia, his Rancho Banderas home in Punta de Mita, MX, on the beach at Myrtle Beach or at his Lake Tara home in Villa Rica. At home, he tended to his home as its guardian, and always had a repair or project. He was the “fixit” handyman who was often consulted by his family and friends. As he moved to a new home, he left his former home always in the perfect condition. What a joy he felt working in the electrical department at the Estero Lowes with his buddy Dan, known as the BAD team (Bob and Dan).A Facilities leader in higher education, Bob’s reputation grew from the early days at Western Washington University to University of California-San Francisco to University of Southern California to Emory University in Atlanta where he retired as Vice President for Campus Services in 2010, He led the Facilities Management division to receive The Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers (APPA) highest institutional honor, The Award for Excellence in Facilities Management, citing that Emory had not only met but in some categories exceeded the established requirements to qualify for the award. He also served as President of the Georgia Association of Physical Plant Administrators from 2004-2006.He was most proud of his legacy at Emory as a committed leader in implanting green technology and advancing the value of sustainability in the University’s design, construction and operating practices. When he retired, Emory had more square footage of certified Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) buildings than any other university campus in the country. The Robert S. Hascall Sustainability Innovator Award is annually given to faculty, staff and students who further the university’s goal of a sustainable campus.Bob retired in 2010 after receiving Emory University’s Award of Distinction, an award given to faculty, staff and students who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to their job by their initiative, innovation and leadership in furthering Emory’s vision as a “destination university.”An opportunity to Celebrate the Life of Bob Hascall will take place 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Cypress Lake United Methodist Church, 8570 Cypress Lake Drive, Ft. Myers, FL 33919.In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made in his name to the following organizations:STEPHEN MINISTRY of Cypress Lake UMC, where he so humbly and compassionately did our Lord’s work;CYPRESS LAKE UMC BUILDING FUND, where he actively participated in the master planning of its campus to better serve its community “here, there and everywhere” ;THE FLORIDA UNITED METHODIST CHILDREN’S HOME, 51 Children’s Way, Enterprise, FL 32725, to care for God’s beloved orphan children.Arrangements for final care have been entrusted to Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555.
