Robert Kummins' Obituary
Robert Kummins, 85, of Fort Myers, FL, died Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Hospice South – HealthPark. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 1, 1929. He lived in Winthrop until he was graduated from Bentley University of Accounting and Finance. After marrying Gloria (Schneider) in 1955 they both worked in Boston and lived in Newton. Bob had his own CPA firm in Boston for 18 years and in Fort Myers, Florida for 18 years. He retired in 1990 then continued working part-time for 18 years at his chosen profession well into his 80’s. Eighteen is a traditionally significant number in Judaism, in Hebrew it means Chai,- in English it means Life and is considered good luck. He worked as a pastry chef from the age of 13 until he went into the Army Infantry during the Korean War. He was a Life Member of the Combat Infantrymen’s and Disabled American Veterans Associations, and served as Chaplain of Jewish War Veterans Post 400 in Fort Myers. Bob raised his country’s flag every morning and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. He was a member of Temple Beth El and made it an important part of his life contributing time and talent, serving as Executive Vice President, as a member of the Board of Trustees, and many committees for over 40 years. He was treasure of the TBE Men’s Club. He received the Volunteer of the Year Award from TBE. Bob was excited to become a member of V.O.I.C.E. and enjoyed acting as a Lee County Volunteer Sheriff’s Deputy. He had served as President of the Southwest Florida Estate Planning Council. Bob and Gloria enjoyed their membership in Parlor Players, a play-reading and acting group for 15 years which turned them into “hams.” Bob is survived by his dear wife of 59 years, Gloria; daughter, Helaine of Haydenville, MA and son, Jeff of Winter Park, FL; brother, Joel Kummins (Carma) of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Arlene Klayman of Revere, MA and Louise Stein (Arthur) of Scottsdale, AZ; nieces, Judy, Cindy and Courtney and nephews, Ryan and Adam. Memorial Services will be 11:00am, Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at the Temple Beth El, 16225 Winkler Road, Fort Myers, FL 33908. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Temple Beth El.
