Robert E. McKain's Obituary
Robert E. McKain, age 89, of Estero, Florida passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 22, 2014 with his loving family by his side.He was born November 7, 1924 in Merom, Indiana, the proud son of Hazel (Scott) and Francis McKain. Robert was a member of the “Greatest Generation” who answered his nation’s call to service without hesitation during World War II. During the conflict he was a part of combat operations in the European theatre and was eventually stationed in Germany as a member of the U.S. Army Military Police.Following his military service, Robert returned to Carthage, Indiana and married the love of his life Norma Parish and together they raised two wonderful children. He spent his career tending to his fields as a farmer and was also the owner and candy maker at the “Old Fashioned Candy Store” located in Metamora, Indiana. He attended Metamora United Methodist Church and worshiped with great devotion and faith in the Lord. He and Norma were glad to vacation in Southwest Florida for the past 30 years and have been full-time Estero residents since 2010.Robert leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 65 years Norma; his daughter Sherry M. Chandler; his grandchildren Rob Chandler (wife, Melisa) and Shelli Wilson (husband, Israel); his great grandchildren Alex (wife, Emily), Cheyanne, Noah, Luci, Stuart and Logan and one great-great grandchild Hazel. He also leaves behind a number of extended family and a multitude of people who were happy to call him a friend. Sadly he was predeceased by his parents, his stepfather Frank Alexander and his son Mike.Funeral services for Robert will be private. Burial will take place at Arlington Cemetery in Rushville, Indiana at the convenience of the family.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555.
