Robert Emerson Munro's Obituary
Robert Emerson Munro, better known as Bob, of La Belle and formerly of Cape Coral, Florida passed away peacefully at home with his loved ones by his side on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. He was 88 years old.
Bob was born on July 21, 1931 in Gary, Indiana, the proud son of Dorothy (Burke) and Robert Munro. He was a Veteran of the United States Army who spent much of his life in NW Indiana working hard to support his family, whom he loved dearly. Bob was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman who would spend many summer days fishing the lakes of Wisconsin and Michigan. More importantly, Bob was a man of God. After retiring from U.S. Steel and moving to Southwest Florida, he was a founding member of New Hope Christian Church and was part of their leadership team for a number of years. He was a person who was admired for his dedication to family, faith and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Bob leaves to cherish his memory his childhood sweetheart and wife of 64 years, Winifred (Jackson) Munro; his three adoring children Cynthia Kennedy (Steve), Robert Munro (Mary Beth) and John Munro (Christina); six cherished grandchildren Jason (Tawny) Kennedy, Jeff (Abigail) Kennedy, Robert Munro, Mark Munro (Brittanie), Justina Munro and Jacob Munro; 4 great grandchildren; his loving sister Linda; brother-in-law, Robert Carter Jackson; along with many nieces and nephews. Bob also leaves behind a large extended family and a great many others he met along life's pathway and were proud to call him a friend. Sadly, he was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Mary Ann Remaley and Pat Martin.
A Funeral Service for Bob will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33907, (239) 936-0555. A Visitation for Bob will precede this ceremony beginning at 11:00 AM also inside the funeral home chapel. After these services, friends and family will recess to adjacent Memorial Gardens Cemetery where Bob will be laid to rest at the Mausoleum located inside the Garden of the Good Shepherd. At the conclusion of exercises in the cemetery, friends are welcome to attend a time of fellowship to celebrate Bob's life at New Hope Christian Church, 17181 Tarpon Way, North Fort Myers, Florida, (239) 218-9420.
In lieu of flowers, the family recommends that contributions in Memory of Bob be offered to the Missions Fund at New Hope Christian Church, 17181 Tarpon Way, North Fort Myers, Florida, (239) 218-9420.
