Robert Allen Oney Sr.'s Obituary
Robert Allen Oney Sr. of Fort Myers, Florida passed away with his loving family by his side on Monday, April 11, 2022 following recent health challenges. He was 87 years old.
Robert (Bob) was born in Jackson, Ohio on April 20, 1934, son to Cora A. (Hopkins) and Richard T. Oney. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He met his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Jean (King) Oney, in Yorktown, VA while stationed there.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, and their 4 children: son, Robert Oney Jr. (Anne Marie) of Fort Myers, FL and daughters Julie Oney Carter (Robert E) of Estero, FL; Christie Pence (Steve) of Eldora, IA; Kimmie Oney of Fort Myers, FL and sister Kay Lovell of Memphis, TN. Papa Bob’s legacy will live on in his 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren whom he adored and found much pleasure in being a part of their lives.
Bob and Betty made their home in Jackson, OH after their years in the Marine Corps. In 1969 they moved their family to Fort Myers, FL where he was the 5th generation to become President and Owner of the family business, Oney Sheet Metal.
Known in the area as an accomplished musician and singer, Bob played many venues in SW Florida. He was honored to be inducted into the SW Florida Country Music Hall of Fame.
A Memorial Service for Bob will be presided by Dr. Robert Pritt, D.O., President of the McGregor Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The services will take place at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, April 16, 2022 in the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Guests are welcome to gather for Visitation at 11:00 AM preceding the 12:00 PM service in the funeral home chapel, with internment immediately following. For those who were unable to attend Bob's funeral service in person, the family invites you to watch an internet recording of his service in the Chapel by clicking on the following links. At the conclusion of services inside the Chapel, guests will recess to adjacent Memorial Gardens Cemetery where Bob will receive Military Honors from the United States Marine Corps, following which he will be laid to rest at the Mausoleum located inside the Field of Honor.
