Robert Norman Selby's Obituary
Robert (Bob) N. Selby, 85, of Estero, Florida passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018. He was born to the late William W. Selby and Olive Kins Selby on July 15th 1932, in Watervliet, NY.Mr Selby’s career was with the sheet metal fabrication business which began in 1950 with his apprenticeship, then progressed through the Journeyman, Foreman, and Superintendent levels before making the decision to form a new company.In 1968, Robert co-founded the firm Selby and Smith Inc., Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors, where he served as Treasurer and Operations Manager, until retiring in 1994.In addition to his business, Robert was very active with numerous trade associations including American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers; National Sheet and Air Conditioning Contractors Assoc, Capital Region, Albany, NY; Eastern Region, National Sheet Metal Apprentice Training Programs, Member and Chairman; and National Co-Chairman, Sheet Metal Apprentice Training Programs. Community services in which Robert was a part of included Rotary Club, Watervliet, NY, Greater Troy NY, Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors at Country Creek and many others.Robert proudly served in the United States Army Reserve, Medical Corps from 1950-1958.He leaves behind his loving children, Deborah Sheehan, Karen Snay (Edward), Stephen Selby (Sandy), Bryan Selby (Joan) and Matthew Selby (Candace), grandchildren Gayle, Rachel, Scott, RoseMary, Tara, Eddie, Danielle, Nick, Gina, Nathan, Nicholas, and Skylar; and his great grandchildren Madison, Christian, MacKenzie, Ryder, Taylor, Brock, Jacob, Daniel, Carter, Charlotte, Cody, Riley, Claire, Lily, Lucy, and Violette.Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Mary Duffney Selby.Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home,1589 Colonial Blvd. Fort Myers, Florida 33907.
