Robert Stevens' Obituary
Robert Stevens, age 95, passed away Wednesday, April 3rd, 2019, in Ft. Myers, FL. He was born in Sullivan, Missouri on November 23, 1923. His Father was Roy K. Stevens and his Mother was Hazel Shaw Stevens. Robert married Ruth Schmidt on October 10th 1948 and were parents of four children, Charles Robert Stevens, Denise Rose Stevens Estes, Marla Ruth Stevens, and Roy Kevin Stevens. Ruth went home to be with the Lord on May 18, 1965. Robert met and married Vernalea Housewright Tyrie on July 7th, 1975. Vernalea Stevens had three children from a previous marriage, Jeffrey Alan Tyrie, Randall Jay Tyrie and Julie Anne Tyrie Raymond (Scott). Jeffrey Tyrie is the father of Tanya Tyrie Caudill (Christopher), and Joshua Austin Tyrie. Randall Jay Tyrie is the Father of Shelley Tyrie Rust (Michael), Shawn Scott Tyrie and Brian Seth Tyrie. Julie Tyrie Raymond (Scott) is the Mother of Ashley Raymond, Amy Raymond Spencer (Brett), Allyson Raymond Roebke (Michael) and Amanda Raymond Bratton (Cameron). From these children gave Robert 13 Great-Grandchildren, Tyler Rust, Madison Rust, Owen Caudill, Wyatt Caudill, Lainey Caudill, and Finn Caudill, Hudson Roebke, Everly Roebke, Julianna Bratton, Cameron, Jr. Bratton, Colin Bratton, Cruz Bratton and Aurora Spencer. Robert loved his Grandchildren and his Great-Grandchildren very much. Robert moved to Ft. Myers in the 50’s and owned and operated Robert Stevens Construction on Sanibel Island, FL until he retired in 1976. After retirement they purchased a farm raising and showing Morgan Horses and Beefalo Cattle. They loved to travel in their various motor homes for some 34 summers traveling the United States including Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Labrador and Newfoundland building memories to sustain them in their retirement years. They loved including visits with their combined family. Robert was a devoted husband, a loving Father, and Grandfather to his growing family. He will be missed by all. Robert chose not to have a traditional funeral but the VFW is having a military service for Robert on Friday, April 5th, 2019 in recognition of his service to his Country during World War 11 when he was in the United States Navy aboard the carrier, Yorktown which was sunk by the Japanese. He was rescued and then spent the rest of the war aboard the USS Charles Ausburne. Robert love the Lord God, his family, his Country and leaves for his family and friend an example of integrity and loyalty to all. Military Honors for Robert will be provided by the Harney Point Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, No 8463 at 11:00 am on Friday, April 5, 2019 inside the Chapel of Memories located on the grounds of Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33907, (239) 936-0555. At the conclusion of these services, Robert will be laid to rest in the mausoleum located inside the chapel. In lieu of flowers please feel free to contribute to Olga Baptist Church, 2364 S.
