Robert A. Wilder's Obituary
Robert A. Wilder, 82, of North Fort Myers, Florida and Conyers, Georgia passed away on December 4, 2012 at Rockdale Medical Center in Conyers, Georgia. Mr. Wilder was born in Holly, Michigan on November 6, 1930, a son of the late Andrew Wilder and Gladys Skinner Wilder. He was also preceded in death by a son, Gary Sovey. Bob was a graduate of Clawson High School and served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged. He completed his formal education after serving his country, at IUPUI, Indianapolis and Indiana University at the Indianapolis Campus and at the University of Kansas, and Upper Iowa University, Fayette, Iowa. He undertook a career in 1948 that many Americans ?áwould ?áenvy, he played professional baseball for the Washington Senators in the Florida State League until 1950. He then began a career in the telecommunications industry in 1952 beginning as a Installer and retired from Telephone and Data Systems as the Director of Corporate Development. While in Indiana, Bob received the highest civilian award given by the State of Indiana?ÇÖs Governor Evan Bayh . ?áHe also received several Civic Awards for Community Development; ?áGood ?áGovernment Task Force; Company Achievement Awards and other State Association awards. Bob?ÇÖs hobbies included flying, golfing, traveling and camping. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Johanna Jacks Wilder; his children, Mike (Linda) Sovey and Beth Whitler both of Michigan and Treva (Jim) Mulligan of Indiana; 7 grandchildren;?á his beloved four legged children, Lizzie and Buddy; his mother-in-law, Norma Jean Jacks; a brother-in-law, Johnny Jacks, and a sister-in-law, Jennifer Williams; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the chapel of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, Florida 33907. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Entombment will be in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens?á Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Humane Society, St.Jude?ÇÖs?á or the charity of ones choice in Bob?ÇÖs name.
