Roger Lee Allen's Obituary
Roger Allen, 80, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away under the care of Hope Hospice on Wednesday, December 25, 2024. Roger was born on October 20, 1944, in Granite City, IL, to the late James Ralph and Virginia Marie (née Meyer) Allen. He married Sharon Sue (née Nave) Allen on July 22, 1967, in the United Methodist Church in Edwardsville, IL.
Roger graduated from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, IL, with a major in Geography and minors in Mathematics and Civil Engineering. After that, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force.
Following his 20-year military career, he received an honorable discharge from the Air Force and began his private sector career as an assistant program director for Litton in Beavercreek, OH. He later became Vice-President of INFORMS in Spring of 1997 in Montgomery, AL. He ultimately became COO and CEO of GovDeals.com in Montgomery, AL, before retiring in Autumn of 2003.
Roger enjoyed watching baseball and basketball, two sports he played in his youth. He was a life member of both Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association (AFCEA) and Southern Illinois University Alumni Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Sharon (née Nave) Allen and survived by his two children, Scott Allen of Tampa, FL and Erin Allen of Atlanta, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Hope Hospice (http://www.hopehospice.org/donate) in his name. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, Fort Myers, FL.
