When we shared Dr. Bell's obituary with the University of Louisville Department of Psychiatry's faculty it launched a conversation of kind memories and fond words. Please see these responses below: Many of the newer and younger faculty may not know of Dr. Roger Bell. Roger had a long association with this department from the mid 1970s until his retirement in the early 2000s. He was Director of Medical Student Education early in his tenure here and also worked in the clinic at ACB. Roger and I worked together closely on the AIDS training grant from 1988-91 (along with Bob Frierson), and also on the aircraft hijacking research grant from 1987 through 1995. In addition to the aircraft hijacking project, Roger was instrumental in developing the relationship that our department had with the FBI from 1987 through 2002.Dr. Bell devoted most of his professional career to this department. I am saddened to hear of his passing. Roger was a close friend and a valued colleague; he will be missed.TedTheodore B. Feldmann, MD, DFAPA____________________________________________________________________Roger was, as Ted has described , an important contributor to all the central academic missions of our department for many years. In addition he had an engaging and gregarious personality and was always an interesting and committed member of our faculty. His passing is a loss to all who knew him. Allan Tasman, MD______________________________________________________________________I knew him from a different perspective. In the dark ages, as students we had to meet with someone in the psych dept, see a patient with them and discuss it. He was my preceptor for those 3 meetings. He also accompanied me to an AA meeting I was required to attend. He was very kind to me and to the patient we had( an anorexic who was hospitalized). He was not judge mental at all. He was a very nice man. Jeannie Roberts, MD______________________________________________________________________Being in the faculty for years, I know Roger and I am saddened to hear of his passing away. He was a very good and helpful colleague, friendly with a lot of enthusiasm and a good mentor to the students and residents Carmelita Tobias, MD_______________________________________________________________________I will miss Roger very much. I met him when I was recruited here in 1992, and still remember our drive along River Road to Captainâ??s Quarters for lunch. He made the point that he chose Captainâ??s Quarters to sell me on the beauty of Louisville â?? and it worked! Roger was a supportive colleague, had a wonderful sense of humor, humility and a passion to serve law enforcement personnel. Iâ??m saddened to learn of his passing.Tracy Eells, PhD_______________________________________________________________________Thank you, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences University of Louisville
