Ronald Allan "Lefty" Spetz's Obituary
Ronald Allan “Lefty” Spetz, 84, formerly of Jamestown, NY, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at Hope Hospice in Fort Myers, FL.Ronald was a loving husband to Lynn A. Spetz, whom he married on May 23, 1964.Ronald was born on December 23, 1934, in Jamestown, NY, the son of the late LaVerne and Whilma Hedberg Spetz.He was a 1954 graduate of Jamestown High School and served in the U.S. Army. He was an exceptional athlete and played for many baseball teams in the Jamestown area. He also enjoyed ice skating and downhill skiing in his younger years.After high school and serving in the military, he worked for more than 35 years as a lineman with the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities from where he took an early retirement and then he and Lynn moved to Fort Myers, Florida. Ronald enjoyed his retirement playing golf and tennis, and socializing with their many friends. Family was most important to Ronald, as he and Lynn frequently returned to Jamestown to spend their summers on Chautauqua Lake.Surviving family members include his loving wife Lynn, daughters Lori (Ross dec) Rickerson (Jamestown, NY) and Julie Spetz (Fort Myers, FL), son Craig (Georgia) Spetz, Charlotte, N.C., grandchildren Cassandra and Nicholas Rickerson, and Alexis and Matthew Spetz. Ronald also had several loving nieces and nephews.Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Donna (Clifford dec) Carlson, and two brothers, Daniel Spetz and Weldon “Archie” (Barbara) Spetz.A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Hope Hospice, to whom Ronald’s family is grateful for helping him transition to the other side of the veil with as much dignity and peace as possible.
