Roy Erin Wolfe's Obituary
ROY ERIN WOLFE, 82,?ápassed away on June 4, 2011, the result of a?átragic accident falling backward going up an escalator.?á He was born Jan. 27, 1929 in Charleston, West Virginia. He attended Stonewall Jackson High School and Morris Harvey College both in Charleston. He also served his country in the US Navy SEABEES. ?á As a young man, Roy worked for?áthe Galperin Music Company on 21 Capitol St where he meets and falls in love with the beautiful Mary Lou Asbury.?á They were married on Feb 2, 1951 at Calvary Baptist Church following a reception at her parent’s home Wylie and Lura Asbury.?á?áHe began his newspaper career working?á in the advertising department of The Charleston Daily Mail newspaper. ?á In 1958 with two children they moved to the Space Coast of FL to work for The Orlando Sentinel.?á?áRoy retired from the Gannett Corporation/Today Newspaper in Melbourne.?á Also, in the 1980’s he and his wife owned The House of Fragrance on Fifth Ave, Indialantic Beach.?á He and Mary Lou later moved to the SW FL area to be close to their adult children and families. ?á He was very happy when golfing with his golf buddies in Melbourne.?á He enjoyed bowling, too, obtaining a perfect score.?á Roy always loved a good joke and rooted for the underdog.?á The Central FL Blood bank honored Roy for donating over 10 gallons of blood, and the Melbourne area Chamber of Commerce honored Roy in 1976 for obtaining the most new members during?átheir fall membership drive.?á ?áHe loved reading, crossword puzzles, cars and collecting coins.?á He watched the FSU and UF games with his grandsons who graduated from the rival Universities.?á He was always a good neighbor to those around him. ?á He is survived by his wife of 60 years Mary Lou of Alva, daughter Karen?á(Dr Steven Holberg) Wolfe?áHolberg of Alva,?á son Daniel A. Wolfe (faithful dog Jazz) of Miami, grandsons Brady Fletcher Vogt of Las Vegas, NV, Tyler Erin Vogt of Ft Myers, Michael (Ann) Holberg of TN, and Alyson (Bill) Case of Ft Myers, great grandchildren Katlyn and Wyatt Holberg of TN.?á He was preceded in death by his loving Mother Ethel Mae Edins Wolfe who passed when Roy was 5 and his grandmother Cynthia Edins.?á?á?á?á ?á The family wish to Thank the Kindred Hospital in Coral Gables for the ten ?áweeks of exceptional care given to Roy while he was on a respirator after his fall.?á Also a Thank You to Dr Javedan, who operated on Roy plus?áthe great Doctors, Nurses (ICU)?áand staff at Lee Memorial Trauma unit. ?á Arrangements are being handled by Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.?á Condolences for the family may be left at www.fortmyersmemorial.com?á In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital www.stjude.org.
