Roy J. Zabierek's Obituary
Roy J. Zabierek, 81, of North Fort Myers, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2016 following an extended illness. He was born May 23, 1935 in Chelmsford, MA to Walter and Helena (Wazoha) Zabierek. He moved to Florida from San Diego, CA over 20 years ago. Roy’s long career ranged from teaching to Educational Media. He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Beloved Protective Order of Elks. He was the class representative for Chelmsford High class of 1953. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts/Lowell in 1957 where he was the editor of the college newspaper and class yearbook. Mr. Zabierek is survived by his wife of 9 years, Ruth DeMartinis-Zabierek; his children: John Zabierek (Kelly) of Arizona, Neil Zabierek of Naples and Maria Winters (Jerome) of Virginia; his grandchildren: Zachary, Abigail and Emma. Also surviving are 4 step-children, 8 step-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his late wife, Mary Gorman Zabierek. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 18, 2016. Friends will be received from 5 – 7 PM Friday, June 17 in the chapel of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33907, 239-936-0555.
