Ruby Nell Hughes Whealy's Obituary
Ruby Nell Hughes Whealy passed gently and with grace on September 26, 2017 after a brief illness in Fort Worth, Texas.Ruby was born in Allen County, Kentucky on September 27, 1917 to Bessie Chandler Hughes and Samuel Edward Hughes. She graduated from Bristow High School, in Bristow, Kentucky in 1935 and attended Bowling Green Business School in Bowling Green, Kentucky receiving a business degree in 1937. After graduating, Ruby accepted a position with the Child Welfare Department of the Commonwealth of Kentucky in Catlettsburg, Kentucky.Ruby met Roland A. Whealy in Catlettsburg and they were married on December 17, 1939. Ruby and Roland had three children. The Whealys settled in Catlettsburg, moved to Ashland, Kentucky in 1952, to Bethesda, Maryland in 1957, to Hartsdale, New York in 1959 and to London, England in 1970. They retired to Fort Myers, Florida in 1972. Ruby and Roland were long-time residents of Whiskey Creek Country Club Estates and were charter members of the Whiskey Creek Country Club. Ruby moved to Fort Worth, Texas in 2002 to be closer to her daughter, Catherine Anne Whealy.Ruby was active in the Girl Scouts of America, First United Methodist Women and Lee Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in Fort Myers, Florida. Ruby was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Myers, Florida and Fort Worth, Texas, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Ruby was an active golfer, bridge player and traveled the world with Roland for pleasure.Ruby is survived by her daughters, Joyce Lee Reischutz and husband, John Reischutz of Shirley, Massachusetts and Catherine Anne Whealy of Fort Worth, Texas; her grandsons, James E. Reischutz and wife, Heather Anne Rudkin Reischutz of Berkeley, California, Jason T. Reischutz and wife, Nicole Reischutz of Worcester, Massachusetts and Justin M. Reischutz and wife, Courtney Reischutz of Huntington Beach, California; and her great grandsons, Jasper Cayman, Felix Jamesson, Riley Robert and Matthew Roland Reischutz.Ruby is preceded in death by her husband, Roland A. Whealy; her son, Steven Louis Whealy; her sisters, Nancy Pauline Mayo and Reba Peterson; her brothers, Max Hughes, Elvis (Bud) Hughes, Harlan Hughes, Ray Hughes, Carline Lincoln Hughes and Samuel Clifford (Cliff) Hughes.We will always remember Ruby’s warm heart, quick wit and ready smile.Visitation will be 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM followed by a funeral ceremony at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 26, 2017 in the chapel of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33907.
