Sally Ann Getchell's Obituary
Sally Ann Getchell, beloved wife and mother, left this earth to be with Jesus on April 26, 2025. She was 83 years old.
Born on October 8, 1941, in Bangor, ME, she was the daughter of Lloyd and Marion Clement of Levant, ME, where she lived until marriage. She attended high school in Brewer, ME, and later graduated from the Northern Conservatory of Music in Bangor.
She married Lewis Wayne Getchell in Kenduskeag, ME on June 3, 1963. The couple moved to Goldsboro, Maryland where she became the music director at the Trinity United Methodist Church and was the substitute teacher for Caroline County Board of Education. She loved serving people, especially children. In 2001, Sally moved to Zephyrhills, FL with her husband Wayne where she enjoyed attending church and partnering with Wayne to coordinate trips for their senior ministry. Sally also enjoyed visiting with her friends and sitting on her front porch watching the Zephyrhills skydivers.
Sally loved her family. She has 3 children: Angel Lay (Tim) of Cape Coral, FL, Scott Getchell (Cheryl) of Denton, MD, and Candy Jordan (Richard) of Denton, MD. 5 grandchildren: Travis Lay, Ryan Lay, Brandon Eckeard, Kyle Getchell, and Morgan Griffith. 2 great-grandchildren, Hayden and Jessie, and one on the way. She also loved her pets, especially Cookie and Smokey Bear, and her many rescued cats.
Sally was preceded in death by her three siblings, Beryle Higgins, Faye Hodgdon, and Galen Clement, all of Levant, ME.
One of Sally’s last charitable passions was sponsoring a young man in Honduras. Reinaldo Jareth Ramos Medina, “Jareth”, is a Junior in High School. He dropped out last year due to a lack of family resources. With Sally’s assistance, he has re-enrolled and is hoping to finish high school and continue his education afterwards. To quote Sally, “When you get to be my age, you lack purpose in this world. This young boy gives me a purpose once again.”
In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations to honor Sally’s passion to continue sponsoring Jareth. The donations can be sent via Zelle or PayPal to [email protected]. Checks are welcome and can be mailed to C/O Tim and Angel Lay. In the memo section, if possible, comment using Sally or Jareth’s name.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later time.
