Sally R. Maurer's Obituary
Sally R. Maurer, 82, died Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Gulf Coast Memorial Hospital, Fort Myers, Fllorida. Born Sally Anne Rosenberger on January 11, 1933 at Punxsutawney, Pa., the oldest child of William and Eileen “Maude” Rosenberger. She grew up in Rocky Grove, Pa. where she admitted that she liked to climb trees and took piano lessons. Graduated third in her class of 1951 from Rocky Grove (Sugar Creek Township) High School. Married Stanley V. Maurer in 1952. Graduated from Indiana State Teachers College, Indiana, Pa. class of 1955 with B.S. in Elementary Education. She and Stan settled in Waterford, Pa. where Stan was a music teacher at Fort LeBeouf High School and Sally was librarian at Girard High School in Girard, Pa.The couple had two sons, Mark, born in 1956 and Scott, born in 1958. Sally was an excellent organist and played the organ at whatever church Stan could get a job as choir director. Also, during this time Sally helped Stan start a couple of business ventures including Maurer Studios, a professional photography studio and Lake Cruise, Inc. which operated a tour boat, the “Molly Brown”, giving one hour narrated sightseeing cruises on Lake Erie from the Erie Public Dock in Erie, Pa. The family moved to Fort Myers, Fl. in 1967 when Stan and Sally purchased Shanty Boat Cruises from Jim Nisbet. The motor vessel “Lazy Bones” took 16 passengers on a weekly 5 day cruise to Lake Okeechobee and back. They visited Hilton Head Island, S.C. in 1976 and two years later purchased Vagabond Cruises, also from Jim Nisbet, which the two of them operated successfully from Harbour Town on Hilton Head until 2000. They then moved back to Fort Myers permanently in 2006.Sally was preceded in death by her husband Stanley and a granddaughter Elizabeth Anne Maurer. She is survived by her two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Irene Rosenberger of Frankilin, Pa. and William and Rebecca Rosenberger of Meadville, Pa., two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Lori Maurer of Hilton Head Island, S.C. and Scott and Deborah Maurer of Fort Myers, Fl., five grandchildren, Krista Maurer, Karly Maurer Barksdale, Kaycie Maurer Foster, Alexander Maurer and Tatiana Maurer and 3 great grandchildren.Her memorial service is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2439 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers, Fl. 33901. The family requests that donations in her memory be made to the Maurer Family Music Fund at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Checks should be made payable to Covenant Presbyterian Church.
