Salvatore Rocco Castiano's Obituary
Salvatore Rocco Castiano, 93, a resident of Cape Coral, FL since 1982 formerly of Centereach, NY passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2023 in Fort Myers, FL. He was born August 26, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York.
Salvatore was a proud United States Army Veteran who served in the Korean War. In 1959, Sal, who was known as Sam by many, joined the Brookhaven Town Police department on Long Island, New York. In 1960, Sal transferred to the newly formed Suffolk County Police Department as a uniformed officer in the Sixth Precinct. He was appointed detective in 1966 and was assigned to the District Attorney’s Office. After retiring in 1982 from the police department, he went on to get his Real Estate license. He also worked for the Department of Business and Professional Regulations as an investigator for the State of Florida. Upon retirement Sal went to work with his son at the World Famous Cigar Bar where he enjoyed bartending and smoking cigars with his regular Sunday patrons. He was an avid Giants and Yankees fan and also loved playing cards. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene.
Salvatore is survived by his three loving children, Robert Castiano (Mark Scheeler) of Hampton Bays, NY, Richard Castiano (Tracey) of Fort Myers, FL and Sally Castiano of Cape Coral, FL; one brother, Thomas D’Aprile (Dolores) of Port Charlotte, FL; two adored granddaughters, Ava and Mia; as well as his beloved grand dog, Piper.
A visitation will be held Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 12:00 – 2:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:45 AM, Friday, February 17, 2023 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 2628 Del Prado Blvd. S., Cape Coral, FL 33904. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Fort Myers, FL.
