Sheldon Weiner's Obituary
Dr. Sheldon Weiner Bonita Springs, FL Sheldon Weiner, M.D. passed away on January 22, 2015 in Bonita Springs, FL. Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 25, 1938, the only son of Murray and Kate Weiner, he has been a resident of Florida since 2001. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Louise Magram Weiner; his cherished children, Danielle, Eric and Elizabeth (Laurence); and his pride and joy, grandchildren, Jack Henry, Iris and Tate. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Iris (Edward) Miller and sisterin-law Audrey Magram (Andrew Ionta). Shelly graduated from the University of Vermont in 1960 and from its medical school in the class of 1964. He did his internship at Rochester Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY and his residency in psychiatry at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, followed by two years in the public health service at The National Institute of Mental Health in Washington, DC where he was a research associate in the prevention and control of alcoholism. He was named chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Vermont College of Medicine at the age of 32 and remained in that position for 16 years. After his retirement from the University, he and Louise relocated to Southwest Florida where he practiced psychiatry in Naples. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday (TODAY) at Temple Beth El, 16225 Winkler Road, Ft. Myers. Donations in his memory may be made to the temple.
