Shirley H. Jurik's Obituary
Shirley H. Jurik, 90, of Ft. Myers, FL, formerly of Surfside Beach, SC, and Manlius, NY, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was born in Rochester, NY, on October 18, 1927, to David and Marion Hinnau, now deceased. After graduating from Brockport State College where she met George, her husband of 65 years, Shirley began her career as an elementary school teacher. As her family grew, they moved to Manlius, NY, where Shirley devoted all her time to being a loving wife, mother and homemaker. Once her daughters reached their teen years and beyond, she decided to re-enter the work force. After several years in the retail industry, Shirley and George retired to Surfside Beach, SC, to enjoy their retirement in the sunny south. They shared 25 more years together until George’s passing in 2014. Shirley then re-located to Fort Myers, Florida, to be near family. Shirley will always be remembered for her beautiful brown eyes, polite and caring nature, infectious smile, and entertaining wit. She will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by her 4 loving daughters, Patricia Jurik of Ft. Myers, Susan Marconi of Ft. Myers, Judith McCarthy (John) of Ft. Myers and Kathryn Hopkins (Kelly) of Seven Lakes, NC; as well as 2 grandchildren, Lisa Hogan (Joe) of Southern Pines, NC and David J. Hopkins, also of Seven Lakes, NC. A great grandchild is due in August. No services are planned at this time. The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date in Syracuse, NY. The family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at Hope Hospice, who helped make her last days comfortable. They are truly angels on earth! In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice, 9470 Healthpark Circle, Ft. Myers, FL 33908 or to the Alzheimer’s Association via www.alz.org.
