Shirley Y. Kirkby's Obituary
Shirley Yvonne Kirkby (77) passed away Monday, October 27, 2014, at her home in Ft. Myers, Florida. She was born January 26, 1937, in Bloomington, Illinois. Her parents (both deceased) were Mary Lush Landers and Daniel Francis Kirkby. She graduated from Fairhope High School, Fairhope, Alabama, in 1956 and earned her Registered Nursing degree in Mobile, Alabama, from Mobile General Hospital School of Nursing. She was honored to represent nursing school as the Azalea Trail Mail in an annual festival. Shirley lived many years in Kelso, Washington where she was in the restaurant business. In the early 1980’s she moved to Ft. Myers to be near her family. She continued her career in the restaurant business for some years and also worked in the later part of her career at Comcast. She is survived by siblings Marlene Gunnison (Donald A. Gunnison, deceased) of Loxley, AL; John R. Landers (Caro H.) of Spring, TX; and Mary Jo Simpson (Joseph A. Simpson) of Ft. Myers, Florida. Also surviving are many beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 1, 2014, 1 p.m. at St. Lukes Episcopal Church, 2635 Cleveland Avenue, Ft. Myers, Florida 33901. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Animal Refuge Center, c/o Betty Hughes, PO Box 6642, Ft.
