Shirley J. Matthai's Obituary
Shirley J. Matthai, 87, passed away in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family, November 26, 2015 in Lake Placid, FL. She was born February 28, 1928 in Benton Harbor, Michigan and moved to Florida in 1959. Her husband Lloyd, preceded her in death, in 2007. At her request, her ashes will be taken to an island in Ontario, to join those of Lloyd. Both she and her husband were pilots and enjoyed their flying trips and later in their RV’s, which Shirley continued enjoying the past few years. She was a member of: The Mayflower Society: Daughters of Founders and Patriots: Daughters of the American Revolution: Edison Porcelain Artists and their RV group, The Gulf Coast Pelicans, holding offices in all. July of 2009 she moved to Lake Placid to live with her daughter and her family. She is survived by her children, Wayne Offerman of Fort Myers, Carol Pecheco and her husband Steve of Lake Placid, FL, Dean Offerman of Fort Myers; daughter in law, Julie Berchtold of Fort Myers, FL; grandchildren, Drew Hendrickson and his wife Dyanira of Lake Placid, Sarah Offerman of Fort Myers, Tyler Offerman of Kentucky, Kevin Offerman and his wife Kristy of Fort Myers, Darin Offerman of Fort Myers, Justin Offerman and his wife Candy of Lehigh Acres and four great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday December 6th at the Community Church of God, 735 S. Sun-n-Lake Blvd, Lake Placid, FL 33852.
