Sondra C. Gill's Obituary
Sondra “Sandy” Gill, aged 77, died peacefully on June 15, 2017, at the Hope Hospice House in Cape Coral, Florida.She was born in Hackensack, New Jersey, and graduated with a degree in Journalism from Ohio University, in Athens, Ohio, where she was a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority. She moved to Southwest Florida following graduation, to work as a writer and reporter for WINK-TV. Shortly thereafter, she met & married her husband, Sam G. Gill, and started a family in Fort Myers, FL.For years, Sandy was a “stay-at-home” mom and “housewife”, in addition to being actively involved in Fort Myers Chapter #31, Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron in 1977. She also served as a member of the Advisory Board for Fort Myers Assembly #38, Order of the Rainbow for Girls, for over ten (10) years, where she held the Grand Cross of Color. When her kids were grown, Sandy started working in an office “helping out a friend”, which lead to a 20+ year career as an Account Executive with American & Rainbow Floral, where she retired in 2006.Sandy is pre-deceased by her father, Harold Okin, her mother, Dorothy Ettin Okin, her son-in-law, Bill Bishop, and her loving husband of 47 years, Sam Gill. She leaves behind her brother, Eddie (Donna) Okin of Denville, NJ; her daughter, Stacey-Lee Bishop-Cline of Cape Coral, FL; her son, Martin (Tami) Gill of North Fort Myers, FL; her four (4) grandchildren, Mackenzie Bishop of Cape Coral, FL, Samuel Bishop of Cape Coral, FL, Garrett (Victoria) Gill of Little Rock, AR, and Tanner Gill of North Fort Myers, as well as her beloved “Bootsie”. There will be a Memorial Service at the Southwest Florida Masonic Center on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908.
