Sonja June Koutsoutis' Obituary
Sonja “Sonny” June Koutsoutis passed away at her home on Pine Island, FL on December 13, 2025. Sonny is survived by her niece and goddaughter, Kathleen Wildman Dove (Tad), niece and goddaughter, Shawn Aprill Valentine, goddaughter, Kristine Sonstrom Malowski (Mike) and cousin Don Sonstrom (Gayle) and their daughter Jennifer Lynn Sonstrom. Sonny is preceded in death by her husband, Tom “TK” Koutsoutis, their daughters, Christina and Deborah, her parents, Herbert Tuttle Wildman and Mildred Sonstrom Wildman, her brother, James Fredrick Wildman and sister, Karen Aprill Wildman, as well as many close friends who became family.
Sonny was born in Washington, DC on October 28, 1940. She later moved with her family to Vienna, VA where she graduated from Fairfax High School. After graduating, she briefly attended Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD, where she met her husband, Tom. They married and lived in Baltimore, where she worked as a paralegal. After Tom's passing, Sonny moved to Pine Island, FL. While Sonny was not a native, Pine Island held a dear place in her heart. Her parents retired here in 1976, and after visiting them during their first Christmas on the Island, Sonny fell in love with the "Old Florida" feel and knew that she would eventually call Pine Island home as well.
Sonny dabbled in many things, but her greatest passion was helping others. She took great pride in her work with Pine Island FISH (Fellow Islanders Sending Help). She served on the board of directors for the Pine Island Water Association Board for two separate terms, serving as the only woman on the board during both terms. Sonny also advocated fiercely to protect the tranquility of Pine Island from development. Sonny was a long-time ambassador for the American Legion Auxillary's Girls State and was a proud member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
Sonny also loved to play! She was a former president of The Porsche Club of America's Chesapeake Region Chapter, which may be of no surprise because she LOVED to drive! In her early years on the island, she was also a member of the Red Hat Society. She very much enjoyed playing games, including card games with friends and mahjong, as well as computer games. Sonny was the gadget queen – if there was a gadget to do whatever menial task needed to be done, she had it! Over the years, Sonny loved many “fur babies," often adopting cats from friends who needed the extra help. Sonny was known to enjoy a good filet mignon with bearnaise sauce followed by an iced Grey Goose, and her sweet tooth always kept her ready for a good blueberry cobbler or an ice cream cone!
A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you complete a simple act of kindness for somebody in need to honor Sonny's legacy of helping others, preferably while wearing the color purple.
