I was very sorry to hear about Father Stan’s death from my son, Joseph today. I was blessed to have known him as well as his Mother, Mary. I remember him bringing oatmeal to his Mother when she resided in Heartland nursing home. He was not only a great Priest but a wonderful devoted son. I remember taking his Mother for walks in her wheelchair from the nursing home. On one occasion a bird flew nearby, landing on a sign from where he sang his song without any fear of our presence. I carry her photo in my purse with her poundcake recipe on the back. ( though I have yet to bake it!) I was blessed to have Father Stan concelebrate my Mother’s funeral Mass at St. Columbkille Church in 2005. He came to concelebrate my Father’s funeral Mass in 2016, unfortunately he had the wrong day and missed it. My Uncle and Godfather, Rev. William Biffar CSsR, and Father Stan had the same position as Chaplain of the Marine base in San Diego. I never knew this until I read Fr. Stan’s obituary. He will be greatly missed! May he rest in the love and joy of the Lord, as he gave of himself to others!
