Susan (Fitzgerald) Matter
October 7, 1966 – January 25, 2026
Susan (Fitzgerald) Matter, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on January 25, 2026, in Tampa, Florida, at the age of 59. Born on October 7, 1966, in Bronxville, New York, Susan was the beloved daughter of Michael Fitzgerald and the late Barbara (Healey) Fitzgerald. Originally from Waccabuc, New York, she made Fort Myers her home after moving here in 1990.
Susan earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Stetson University and built a life centered on family, compassion, and kindness. After graduation she worked for Saks Fifth Avenue in New York working as a buyer of men’s outerwear. She then took an opportunity to work for Saks Fifth Avenue in Naples. She helped them with their opening and managed their Men’s Department. She was known for her warm heart, unwavering support of her loved ones, and her deep fondness for animals.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 33 years, Gary Matter, and their cherished children, Kaitlyn Matter and boyfriend Bryce, and Michael Matter and fiancée Alyssa, all of Fort Myers. She also leaves behind her sister, Christine Demaras, and her husband Gregory, of Fort Myers, along with many nieces and nephews who will forever carry her memory.
Susan’s love extended to her “grand-dogs,” who brought her endless joy: Otis, Thor, Dillard, Bo, Willow, Poncho, and Petey.
A funeral service to honor Susan’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord, located at 8051 Cypress Lake Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33919. Family will receive friends after the church service. Burial will take place at 3:00 pm at Fort Myers Memorial Garden Cemetery, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33907.

Susan’s warmth, generosity, and devotion to her family and community will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
