Life of Suzi StuckeyMary Suzanne Knight was born in Zeigler, Illinois on October 13, 1931 to Robert and Grace Knight, who worked for Bell and Zoller Coal. She died November 21, 2018 at Barrington Terrace in Ft. Myers, Florida.At 2 ½ years, Suzi was in the scarlet fever epidemic that swept Southern Illinois. Penicillin was not yet discovered and she lived two weeks before being taken to St. Louis for mastoid surgery which left her with 60% in one ear and 40% in the other. She read lips to progress in school, nevertheless she excelled in piano and cheerleading, going on to Southern Illinois University in 1948 majoring in Elementary Education.Her parents had been saved and baptized through the efforts of a local Baptist pastor so Suzi was raised in the church. Her brother Robert Marsden, 12 years younger, completed the Knight family.In college she met Robert Stuckey and fell in love. Wanting to marry, Bob joined the Navy and Suzi continued to her Bachelor’s degree and would work to educate Bob when 4 years later he was discharged.They raised 4 children: Cynthia, Joy Beth, Stephen and David. A girl Julie died at birth in Indonesia. She is survived by her husband and brother, and her 3 living children, plus 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.She became a pastor’s wife in 5 state-side churches after they were commissioned to be Baptist Missionaries to Indonesia in 1962, serving in Java and Sumatra. Then returning to the states she served with her husband in a Texas church and later as a state Women’s Missionary Leader in Iowa.For 19 years Suzi was choir director at the Beach Baptist Church, Ft. Myers Beach, Florida and active in Sweet Adelines International, temporary Adult Choir Director at Southwest Baptist and a founder of New Sanibel Baptist Church Fellowship.A memorial service will be at Southwest Baptist Church, 16940 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers, FL, December 8, 2018 at 11 AM.
