Thomas Donald Armstrong, 84, of Novi, MI and?á a winter resident of North Fort Myers, FL passed away on October 14, 2011.?á Mr. Armstrong was born in Detroit, MI, a son of the late Cyril J. and Ruth E. Armstrong and was the fourth of five children.?á Tom spent his childhood in Detroit and his later life in Northville and Novi, Michigan.?á He was a child model discovered because of his beautiful head of curls at the age of 3 years.?á Tom had a reputation as a practical jokester and charmed everyone he met with his easy going ways.?á At age 16, he lied about his age to join the Navy, but the war ended while en route.?á He spent the next two years as an MP in Japan. His adult life was spent as a co-owner of The Russell Filtration Company with first his brother, Jim then with his son, Randy.?á He was an avid hunter throughout his life.?á Annual trips to Northern Michigan and traveling to Africa and Wyoming to pursue wild game were highlights of his hobby. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Shirley A. Armstrong; two children from his first marriage, Robin Armstrong-Hugg of Los Angeles, CA and Randy Armstrong of Northville, MI;?á one granddaughter, Courtney Gordon?á of Novi, MI; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Lilly Gordon.?á Numerous spouses, nieces, nephews, stepchildren and grandchildren will also miss him.?á A Memorial Service will be held will be held in North Fort Myers, FL and in Northville, MI at times to be announced.?á In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to a charity of ones choice.
